It’s been awhile since I agreed to a residential commission, but when you get to develop sculptures for a wonderful client, it’s irresistible! Here’s this last week’s installation of a steel and kiln-formed glass sculpture of the American River near Goose Flat and Rattlesnake Bar, and several oak and grape leaf compositions scattered throughout the master bedroom suite. “Tree of Life and Hope” is my newly installed

“Tree of Life and Hope” is my newly installed sculpture collection for the new Chapel at Adventist Health Hospital in Marysville. The kiln formed glass and steel tree is the chapel focal point, intended to reference the Biblical tree where the leaves are for “the healing of the nations.” Working with recovered wood from the Paradise Fire (and the woodworking skills of Doug Horton), I designed a prayer “slab” where hospital staff, patients and visitors can leave a prayer, wish or thought inserted into a “woodpecker hole.” The chapel entrance “Tree of Life and Hope” invites visitors inside with 3 enlarged glass leaves from the interior tree color palette. At this particular moment in time, I am profoundly grateful to be engaged in an uplifting project for healing “the nation(s)” and moving away from tribal thinking toward an equal, healthy, principled basis for all of us. I believe we can find a way. In 2014 I created this glass and steel wall sculpt

In 2014 I created this glass and steel wall sculpture for Adventist Health’s emergency room lobby in Paradise, CA. The idea was to commemorate the spirit of the re-building and restoration effort from a devastating fire. Then the well-known Camp Fire swept through over a year ago, displacing 26,000 residents and causing horrific damage. The hospital caught fire, staff safely evacuated everyone, then returned to the safety of the helicopter pad hours later to hunker down and wait. From what they could see, the hospital was destroyed. Amazingly, the lobby of the emergency room survived, along with this sculpture entitled “Shelter.” Yesterday I was able to remove it for safe storage until the new hospital can be built. I cried to witness the community struggling to recover. I cried in front of the sculpture for the strength of the spiritual message it represents and the place it holds to “speak” that message. #deannamarshsculptures. #adventisthealth #artconsultingservices #campfireparadise #campfireparadiseaftermath
